Glorious sunny weather provided the backdrop for this year’s Lanhydrock church and War Memorial Hall annual fete on Saturday 27th August. For many years this had been held in a marquee within the grounds of Lanhydrock House but this year the church and Memorial Hall committees decided to hold the fete at the War memorial Hall itself.

The decision to make the change seemed to have been justified as cars poured through the entrance to take advantage of onsite parking and crowds enjoyed all the usual stalls and activities. The fine weather meant that many of the stalls were able to be outside giving people more space to browse through garden plants, books, jigsaws and bric-a-brac and take a gamble on the Human Fruit Machine, or bowl for the pig. Inside the hall there was the opportunity to buy tickets in various raffles, win something on the Bottle and Tombola stalls, try and spot the correct location in the Treasure Hunt competition, and an almost impossible task, guess the number of bees in a section of bee hive. There was also the opportunity to admire the many entries in the Produce Show, including some very strange looking and imaginative scarecrows. After all that people were able to enjoy a cream tea in the sunshine and chat to friends.

The fete was opened by ex Parish Council Chairman Mr Jeff Chapman and his wife Di who had travelled down from their new home in Devon for the occasion. A total of £1580 was raised on the day and this sum will be shared by the church and War Memorial Hall.
